Synopsis
The USA has well-documented immigrant problems, and Asian Americans are the fastest growing minority. The primary aim of this guide is to provide information on specific books to help children of all ages better understand Asians. It includes both fiction and non-fiction (from UK as well as from US publishers) published between 1970 and 1993 and lists around 400 titles. Also included is a section which introduces the culture and the country of origin of the different immigrant and refugee groups covered in the book. The nationalities which are covered are: China (including Taiwan), Japan, North and South Korea, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, The Philippines, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.It will be of interest to researchers and academics in education and sociology, as well as to teachers and librarians.
